主持国家“重大新药创制”专项课题3项,国家高技术研究发展计划(863计划)1项,国家自然科学基金项目7项,多项省市级科研项目及企业合作项目。申请专利23项(已授权16项),发表论文390余篇,其中SCI收录论文290余篇,副主编或参加编写国家级教材或配套教材10部。2021年获湖北省自然科学一等奖,2018年获华中科技大学三育人奖,2011年获湖北省科技进步二等奖。
主要从事天然药物生物活性成分及创新药物研究,分离和鉴定了天然产物3271个,其中新化合物1828个,包括具有全新碳架的PPAPs、细胞松弛素、萜类、聚酮等200个,隶属于120个不同的新骨架类型。其中21个化合物被Nat. Prod. Rep.评为热点化合物(Hot off the press),有药用开发前景的天然产物或衍生物8个,在复杂天然产物的结构鉴定及活性研究、微量天然产物活性筛选及作用靶点确证、活性化合物深入药理及作用机制研究等方面取得了较好的成绩。申请专利36项,授权专利21项。发表通讯作者SCI论文335篇(IF 10以上论文11篇;IF 5~10论文105篇),文章总IF 1561,被引4602次(他引3586),H-index 34,包括Hepatology1篇(IF 17.3)、Angew.
